Morphettville South Australia Derby day
This weeks it’s the boys to slog it out in the SA Derby (2500m) at Morphettville and that highlights a strong eight event meeting. The weather is fine, the track is good (4) and the rail is out three metres from the 1800m-1200m; Out two metres from the 1200m-600m; True for the remainder. Keep in mind that the first two races will be run on the Parks track.
Race Four (15:00) : Robert & Fay Gerard SA Sprint Series Final 1100m:
Back Me: #6 Itz Invincible $11 (william hill) – Don’t be alarmed by barrier (24) he has good early speed and should cross to take up the lead. Third-up today and won third-up in the past. First-up raced on speed throughout then 3rd of 10 starters at Oakbank (Bm75) 15-Apr-17 over 1050m, fitter now and should take some beating at big odds. Distance record is 5: 2-2-1 and track is 2: 1-1-0. Can’t find anything wrong here and is well over the odds in the double figure mark. BIG E/W PLAY
Race Five (15:40) Southaustralia.com Handicap (90) 1200m:
Back Me: #5 Heza Ripper $13 (william hill) – Absolutely rocketed home last start at Caulfield behind Miss Gunpowder in a BM90. Is race fit now and has a good track and distance record 3:2-0-0. Looks set for a win at odds, but gee I would love some rain to fall to make it a Soft track, as he has not won on a good track before.
Race Seven (16:55) : UBET South Australian Derby 2500m:
Back Me: #5 Odeon $3.80 (william hill) – Gee I loved the way he beat the older horses last start over 2000m. This is a big tick in my eyes, Damian Lane will jump on board and hoping he will give the young fella a steer like Kate Mallayon did last start. Favourites has a good record at this race and I will have to agree that this years winning should be coming from the Mathew Ellerton & Simon Zahra stable.
